At exactly 2:13 every morning, someone knocked three times on Daniel Reed’s bedroom door.

The strange part was that Daniel lived alone.

The second strange part was that his bedroom door had no handle on the inside.

And the third—and most terrifying—was that the knocking had started only after he found the photograph in the basement.

The House on Blackwood Road

Daniel had never believed in ghosts.

He believed in broken pipes, bad wiring, old houses, and overactive imaginations.

So when he inherited an abandoned house from his uncle, he wasn’t afraid.

The house stood at the end of Blackwood Road, surrounded by tall trees.

It had been empty for almost fifteen years.

Daniel planned to repair it, sell it, and move on.

But the first night there, he heard footsteps upstairs.

He checked every room.

Nothing.

The second night, he heard something scratching inside the walls.

The third night, someone knocked on his bedroom door.

Three times.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Daniel opened the door.

The hallway was empty.

The Photograph in the Basement

The following morning, Daniel decided to inspect the basement.

It was filled with old furniture, broken boxes, and things his uncle had apparently never bothered to throw away.

Behind an old wooden cabinet, Daniel discovered a small metal box.

Inside was a photograph.

It showed five people standing outside the house.

Daniel recognized his uncle.

But he didn’t recognize the other four.

On the back of the photograph was a date:

October 17, 1989.

Underneath it, someone had written:

“We should never have opened the door.”

Daniel stared at the sentence.

Then he noticed something strange.

There was a sixth figure in the photograph.

A tall black shape stood behind the group.

It had no visible face.

No eyes.

No mouth.

Just a human-like silhouette.

Daniel turned the photograph over again.

His hands began to shake.

Someone had scratched another sentence beneath the first.

“It followed us home.”

The First Warning

Daniel immediately called his uncle’s old friend, Walter.

Walter lived across town.

When Daniel showed him the photograph, the old man’s face became pale.

“Where did you find this?”

“In the basement.”

Walter stared at the dark figure.

“Your uncle told me to burn that photograph.”

“Why?”

Walter didn’t answer immediately.

Finally, he said:

“Because that thing wasn’t in the picture when we took it.”

Daniel laughed nervously.

“Then how did it get there?”

Walter looked directly at him.

“That’s what we spent thirty years trying to understand.”

The Entity

Walter explained that in 1989, six teenagers had entered the basement of the Blackwood house.

They found an old wooden door behind the furnace.

Nobody knew where the door led.

They opened it.

Behind it was another room.

A completely empty room.

Except for a black circle painted on the floor.

The moment they stepped inside, the lights went out.

When they came back on, one of the teenagers was missing.

They never found him.

But after that night, strange things happened.

People heard footsteps.

Doors opened by themselves.

Photographs changed.

And every night at 2:13, someone knocked three times.

Daniel swallowed.

“Who was missing?”

Walter looked away.

“Your uncle.”

The Lie

Daniel felt cold.

“That’s impossible. My uncle lived until last year.”

Walter’s eyes filled with fear.

“No.”

Daniel frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Walter whispered:

“The man you called your uncle wasn’t your uncle.”

The room became silent.

“He came back three days after disappearing,” Walter continued. “He looked exactly the same. He remembered everything. But he wasn’t the same person.”

Daniel couldn’t breathe.

“What was he?”

Walter shook his head.

“We called it the Dark Entity.”

2:13

That night, Daniel decided to leave the house.

He packed his bag.

He reached for the front door.

Then the clock changed.

2:13.

Three knocks came from upstairs.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Daniel froze.

The sound wasn’t coming from his bedroom door.

It was coming from the basement.

He slowly walked downstairs.

The old wooden door behind the furnace was open.

Daniel was certain he had never opened it.

A cold wind moved through the basement.

Then he heard a voice.

“Daniel.”

It sounded exactly like his uncle.

Daniel stepped toward the doorway.

“Uncle?”

The voice came again.

“Daniel… help me.”

Behind the Door

Daniel knew he should run.

Instead, he opened the door.

Beyond it was the empty room Walter had described.

The walls were covered with photographs.

Hundreds of them.

Every photograph showed the same house.

Different years.

Different people.

But the same dark figure appeared in every picture.

Daniel stepped closer.

Then he saw a photograph of himself.

It had been taken that morning.

He was standing in the basement.

Behind him stood the entity.

Daniel dropped the photograph.

A whisper came from behind him.

“You finally came back.”

He slowly turned.

The figure was standing in the doorway.

It was impossibly tall.

Its body looked like a human silhouette made from darkness.

There were no facial features.

But Daniel could somehow feel it watching him.

The Truth

Suddenly, Daniel remembered something.

A childhood memory.

He had been six years old.

His uncle had taken him to Blackwood Road.

Daniel remembered playing outside.

He remembered seeing the basement door.

And he remembered someone standing behind his uncle.

The dark figure.

Daniel hadn’t inherited the house by accident.

His uncle had left it to him because he knew the entity would eventually return.

Daniel looked at the photographs.

Each one showed a different generation.

Each person had eventually disappeared.

Except one.

The entity.

The Choice

The creature moved closer.

Daniel noticed the black circle painted on the floor.

Walter had said the entity appeared when the circle was opened.

Maybe the circle wasn’t a doorway.

Maybe it was a prison.

Daniel grabbed the old metal box.

Inside was a lighter.

And beneath it was a handwritten note.

His uncle’s handwriting.

“It cannot leave unless someone invites it.”

Daniel understood.

The entity had been trying to make him enter willingly.

It needed permission.

Daniel stepped backward.

“No.”

The entity stopped.

Daniel threw the lighter onto the old wooden floor.

Flames spread across the dry boards.

The entity screamed.

For the first time, Daniel saw something that looked like a face.

It was terrified.

The Burning House

Daniel ran upstairs.

The fire spread quickly.

He escaped through the front door just as flames reached the roof.

Behind him, the house groaned.

Then everything went silent.

The police arrived twenty minutes later.

They found no evidence of another room beneath the house.

No photographs.

No metal box.

Nothing.

Walter arrived before sunrise.

He looked at the burning house.

“Did you see it?”

Daniel nodded.

Walter closed his eyes.

“Then it’s over.”

But Daniel wasn’t convinced.

The Final Photograph

Three days later, Daniel moved into a small apartment across town.

He had almost convinced himself that everything was finished.

Then he received an envelope.

There was no return address.

Inside was a photograph.

Daniel stared at it.

It showed his apartment building.

The photograph had been taken that morning.

Daniel’s hands became cold.

Because there, reflected in the window behind him, was the same dark figure.

On the back of the photograph were five words:

“You opened the door.”

Daniel looked toward his bedroom.

The clock read:

2:12.

He stopped breathing.

One minute later—

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Daniel didn’t move.

Then a voice whispered from the other side of his bedroom door.

“Daniel…”

The voice sounded exactly like his own.

The End
